• Childhood

  • Steve Jobs Was born February 24 1955 in San Francisco California and was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs of Mountain View, California.
  • He went to Cupertino Junior High School and Homestead High school in Cupertino, California.
  • He frequented after-school lectures at the Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto, California. He was soon hired there and worked with Steve Wozniak as a summer employee.
  • In 1972, Jobs graduated from high school and enrolled in Reed College in Portland, Oregon.
  • Atari gave Steve Jobs the job of making a circuit board for the game Breakout. Atari had offered $100 for each chip that was reduced in the machine. Steve Jobs didn't care or know much about circuit board design and made a deal with his friend Steve Wozniak to split the bonus evenly between them if he could reduce the number of chips. Atari was amazed that he reduced the number of chips by 50, a design so compact that it was impossible to reproduce on an assembly line. At the time, he told Wozniak that Atari had only given them $600 (instead of the actual $5000) and Wozniak got $300.

The Beginning of Apple

  • Steve Jobs interested Wozniak in assembling a computer and selling it.
  • In 1976, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak with funding from multimillionaire Mike Markkula, founded Apple. Before Steve Wozniak co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs, he was an electronics hacker. Jobs and Wozniak had been friends for several years, they met in 1971.(see above.)
  • As Apple expanded, the company began looking for an experienced CEO to help manage its expansion. In 1983, Steve Jobs lured John Sculley away from Pepsi-Cola to serve as Apple's CEO asking,"Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water to children, or do you want a chance to change the world?"
  • The year after they did just that starting with a SuperBowl Commercial called 1984.famous Apple commercialexternal image moz-screenshot-4.jpg external image moz-screenshot-5.jpg

A New Start

  • At the end of May 1985 all of the Executives agreed that Jobs, the head of the Macintosh division, should be relieved of his duties. Put that anyway you want. He was fired.
  • Soon after Steve started a new company called NeXT.
  • NeXT was not as successful as he would like.
  • The Technology was good but it wasn't cheap so only large companies bought NeXT computers.
  • NeXT bought the computer graphics division of Lucas Film LTD as Pixar for $10 million.
  • Pixar was originally unsuccessfully sold Pixar Image Computer, it contracted with Disney to make movies including, Toy Story(1995). A Bug's Life (1998), Toy Story 2 (1999), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), The Incredibles (2004), Cars (2006), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008) and UP (2009).
  • Apple Bought NeXT for $427,000,000 which brought him back to Apple as CEO and Chairman soon after.
