About Traverse City:

Traverse City is the Cherry Capital of the world. This city is located on Grand Traverse Bay, which features 250 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Traverse City used to be called The Queen City of the North. The very first people to live in Traverse City were the Ottawa, Chippewa, and Potawatomi Indians. The Potawatomi, the Ottawa, and the Chippewa tribes were very sociable. These tribes were so sociable that they earned the nickname The Three Brothers. In more recent years, the resort and tourism industries have grown rapidly. Perry Hannah, who was originally a business man, took great part in the development of Traverse City. In 1852, another pioneer, by the name of Peter Dougherty, planted the very first cherry orchard in Traverse City! By the 1900's, cherries were being shipped all over the country. That is just a little bit of of info on Traverse City, the Cherry Capital of the world.
